Tikal App Reviews

Love it

Love playing this and it works great, just like the board game. Perfect when you dont have other adults to play with.

Awesome game

Ive always loved this board game, and Im so glad to play it as an app. The flow is slower than it needs to be, and the response times are a bit sluggish when you tap, but its well worth it if you arent the type to rush through a game.

Bugs

So far I have encountered the following issues: 1) Game opens upside down, it takes several minutes until it adjusts. 2) Some menu option like music freezes and app needs to be force closed otherwise the game always starts on this menu page which cannot be closed. 3) Some rules pages open with no background but only the game itself which makes the text difficult to read.

Great game, great iOS version

That is all

Gaming as it should be

I love this game! It has massive replay ability. Each games is very different. There are many different levels of strategy from placing tiles, moving pieces, collecting treasure, protecting assets, random scoring turns, and stealing from opponents. All of this without the annoying luck of rolling dice to determine your fate. Majority wins - that simple. Every game is different from the first tile played. Pro: Unique game each time Easy to play, but hard to master Lots of levels of strategy to think about Play full game in twenty minutes No online connection needed to play solo Con: No tutorial! I had to go online and watch a video about how to play the board game before I understood how to play the app. Touch sensitive - many times I have to undo a move because it made the wrong play based on a small touch difference with my finger. It takes a while to learn exactly where to touch the screen. The undo button is hidden in the menu tab. Very annoying. It should be on the game board so you can easily undo a move mistakenly made by the computer.

What?

Its upside down on my ipad! The nature of my case (I cant rotate my ipad and still have it sit on the table) means its unlikely Ill ever bother playing this. Its already giving me a push notification but for what? I cant find it when I open the game up. No tutorial means Ill have to be extra bored to read through the rules to learn this. Ive never played the board game (nor have I played this app) so my review is of my initial impressions. Ill update if I get around to playing it.

Very Nice

A nice implementation of a great game.

Fun game!

It has a bit of a learning curve but pretty fun!

Tutorial

Hints are nice, but a tutorial would be better. Trying to use AI plays so my first RL play through wont be plagued with AP.

Love the pass and play.

A great strategic game I can play with my son over a few nights. No little pieces, all of the fun. Keep making these, we are collecting them all!

Great port of the board game with minor AI issues

This is a beautiful translation of the board game. The interface is a little unintuitive at first but that quickly disappears once youve played a full game. The visuals are even better than the boxed game set components. The AI however is rather weak. Even the highest rated AI doesnt seem to make optimal moves that seem obvious, and the dumber AI levels make truly bad choices... Almost simulating human players that have given up on trying! But being able to play against other humans helps make up for this, youre not always stuck playing against easy targets.

Online is broken

When playing locally the app works great. But if your trying to play online then its pretty bad. Dont get notifications its your turn, if you take longer than 72 hours to take your turn then you have to quit the game and cant take your turn. If you have an invite it doesnt always show in the play section it just tries to create a new game with random people. Needs some work before its a great app.

Love it

One of my favorite board games and the app is just like the board game.

Fun Game. Needs better AI and Working Multiplayer.

Im new to this game and really like it. A quick tutorial would have helped me pick up this game faster. AI is pretty weak after playing a few times and Ive never been able to get through more than a couple of moves with multiplayer. Needs update - 2 years and counting. Will likely buy the board game too to introduce to friends.

Fun easy to love board game

I handed my wife the iPod with the rules pulled up. A short while later, she beats me her first game! Very fun, easy to like, and great potential for depth. Only need a tutorial for 5 stars.

Good game but...

Well-designed game but it has bugs with game center play. Asynchronous play does not work and have waited two years for this fix. Using latest version of ios on ipad mini 2.

Great game

I was looking for a fun stategy game that is playable in small chunks of time. It needed to be a game where I could quickly figure out where I was and what I was planning, even if it had been a few days since I last played, and to not have any kind of time limits. I downloaded several games; Tikal is the one I keep playing. The game has enough variety and challenge to make it fun to play repeatedly. The app is visually appealing and its AI and hints are great for helping beginning players learn the game easily and increase the level of challenge when ready. It can be difficult and sometimes frustrating to tap the tiny pieces, but at least the game confirms that it was your intended move before playing and the game has an undo feature. One thing that almost never works correctly is the screen rotation, which is very frustrating when Im trying to play with my phone plugged in on my right side, which seems to happen often.

A fun game!!

A very fun game that deserves to be played! I dont know why its not updated yet but it should be! The problems others have with this app didnt bother me and it wasnt hard to learn. I was surprised by the quality!

Quite the accomplishment

This board game is a flawless masterpiece. A smooth learning curve with a nice tutorial(read the tutorial before starting the first game) and 6 opponents with different skill levels. Definitely worth more then 2.99. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone.

Great but weak AI?

Having fun with this so far! Well worth the money. I have only played a few games thus far but as you can see from the title I am a bit worried the AI may be too easy. Other than that I would definitely recommend this. Hopefully the other games in the bundle(this is available in a bundle of 5 games, I believe) are just as as good.
